4D-Bio¶
4D-Bio is a community-maintained map of the skills needed to practice AI-assissted bioinformatics responsibly and effectively. It organizes key bioinformatics skills, derived from the ISCB Competency Framework v3.0 and selected publications, around four AI-fluency capabilities from Anthropic's 4D framework for AI fluency: Delegation, Description, Discernment, and Diligence.
The four capabilities¶

Who this is for¶
- Practicing bioinformaticians: self-assess where your AI skills are strong or thin.
- Educators and curriculum designers: decide what to teach and how to train the next generation.
- Team leads and hiring managers: write job descriptions and AI-use guidelines grounded in a shared vocabulary.
How to use it¶
- Read the Overview to see how the model is built and how its source frameworks fit together.
- Pick a capability and read its practice areas.
- Think about how each practice area connects to your daily activites and see what skills could help you.
Contributing¶
4D-Bio is an early draft and a call to the bioinformatics community. As domain experts, it is on us to decide how generative AI enters our daily work and our training programs.
